If you haven’t heard of DUAL; AKA New Zealand’s resident indietronica chargers, that’s all about to change. One listen of their kaleidoscopic new single Running Around My Head and – you guessed it – it will quite literally be running around your head.

Formed in Auckland, DUAL bring together the raw power of lead vocalist Maurice Miller with guitarist Jamie Pyne’s dynamic riffs and electronic production for a uniquely intoxicating sound.

Running Around My Head is a pure sonic neo-psychedelic experience that will transport you onto a heaving outdoor dancefloor at the peak of Summer; good vibes, sunshine, sweat, and like-minded groovers getting on down.

Lyrically, Maurice conveys the relatable struggles of a relationship in conflict and the reflex to run.

On Running Around My Head, Maurice frenetically expresses; “Human avoidance for the temporary rush of release from the routine of the relationship. Sleepless nights & overthinking. You can’t stay but you can’t go. The sunny side of road trips, the imagination of greener grass anchored down by true love. The cycle continues until it doesn’t.”

DUAL’S NEW SINGLE IS RUNNING AROUND OUR HEADS

Running Around My Head is an absolute heater of a track.

You might find yourself pondering on who DUAL remind you of. You’ll likely come up with an eclectic range of answers. Is it Tame Impala? Primal Scream? the Chemical Brothers? All of the above?

The duality in their sound is a thing of beauty. Jamie was captivated from a young age by the larger-than-life energy of Led Zeppelin, inspiring his approach to DUAL’s live set. Playing in the background of Maurice’s household was an eclectic cocktail of anything from Jamiroquai, The Clash to The Horrors. Coming from a classically trained vocal background, the sheer power and rip-roaring energy in Miller’s voice naturally progressed and developed as the years went by. At times, Maurice goes from a gravel-filled snarl to light and airy reverberation.

Now living in a West Auckland pad, complete with a home studio – DUAL originally debuted at a house party, armed with a handful of song ideas – From there the shows and festival spots came knocking.

The pair have supported the likes of Future Classic’s Fortunes and World Champion, performed festival spots at Rhythm and Vines , Rhythm and Alps and iconic 3-day dance party Splore , as well as being featured by Red Bull Sound Select.

DUAL have cultivated a dedicated fanbase from the Auckland gig scene. Karangahape Road’s iconic Whammy Bar; a siren amongst the diverse underground of upcoming kiwi acts, has served as a formative home for DUAL, a space where they negotiated and shaped their sound with the interaction of their audience.

“We’re completely in the moment and everybody is sharing this experience together,” says Jamie when reflecting over their dance-heavy live show which often involve strong visuals and enough energy to supply power to the entire inner-city grid.“Playing live for us is what it’s all about. ” Maurice reflects. “When we play live, it’s our only time we get to share. Aside from that it’s really just Jamie and I in a room. There’s really no other feeling like playing your music live on stage.”
