Our wine industry in New Zealand started with just 362 vines. James Busby, a brave British Resident, planted cuttings from this collection on what would become the Waitangi Treaty Grounds in the Bay of Islands in 1836.
And now we’ve come full circle. Welcome to the circular economy.
3sixty2 is a number that marks a new start for New Zealand wine. It’s a number that represents tenacity, courage and staying true to yourself. It’s about changing the rules. And it’s about honouring your nature no matter what. Because in today’s world, standing up for what’s right has never been more important.
For me, this is sustainability. Pushing boundaries to do better, faster. We have no time to spare. Climate change is inevitably changing the way we make our wines and our ocean is filling up with unwanted plastics. That has simply got to stop. It is my promise to focus on finding a better way to do things.
3sixty2 has become New Zealand’s first wine producer to introduce carbon offsets with CarbonClick- an agile kiwi company that’s changing the way businesses can deliver better climate outcomes.
But this isn’t just the story of another wine company. This is my story. My name is Alice Rule, and I was 25 when I started 3sixty2. As a viticulturist, I started in the vineyards nurturing the vines and I’ve nurtured this business in the same way. It’s a science, it’s an art, but most of all, it’s passion to bring out the very best of what nature has to offer.
We produce small volumes of craft Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir from Marlborough. It gives me great pride to know that each and every one of those bottles stands true to our ethos at 3sixty2 -to deliver a sustainable product that honours our nature.
